John Szabo, M.S.

John Szabo is Canada's first Master Sommelier, earning the title from the internationally recognized Court of Master Sommeliers . He began his career in the hospitality industry in the back of the house, cooking for many top restaurants across Ontario and in Europe. After moving to the front of the house as sommelier, he joined the wine business as an importer of fine wine, and has since worked in all aspects of the drinks trade including positions as an importer, exporter, marketer, writer and educator. John is committed to sharing his knowledge through teaching for organizations such as the Court of Master Sommeliers, the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, The Wine Council of Ontario, George Brown School of Hospitality and Niagara College.

John is a regular columnist and contributor to Wine Access, Ontario’s City Bites Magazine and The Restaurant News recommending great consignment wine and winery direct picks, and writes freelance for many other publications. To round out his experience and get closer to the land, he also owns a small vineyard in Eger, Hungary.
