Gin Fizz Cocktail

The Gin Fizz is another classic “sours” cocktail that is making its way back onto the menus of some of the most avant-garde “speakeasy” lounges globally.  It is an historic cocktail with a very light sour citrus flavor and based on Gin and in the case of this recipe, with some Angostura bitters.  Adding egg whites to this recipe makes it resemble that of a “Sloe Gin Fizz”, named after the type of gin used which is more of a homemade folk-gin or plum cordial containing 15-30% ABV.  However, this recipe calls for regular Gin.

Ingredients:

2 Ounces of Gin

Dash of fresh Lemon or Lime Juice

Dash of Angostura Bitters

1/2 Teaspoon of Sugar

1 Egg White (optional)

Soda Water

Directions:

In a shaker filled with ice, pour the gin, juice, sugar, Angostura bitters and egg white and shake vigorously.   If using egg whites, be sure to shake extra hard and extra long to ensure it is mixed thoroughly with the other ingredients.

Strain the mixed drink into a chilled highball glass or vintage champagne cocktail glass.

Top off with soda water if desired and serve.
