Winterlicious 2010

Let the foodie games begin Toronto. While Vancouver may be hosting the Olymipcs, the annual festival of restaurants and culinary discoveries is once again returning to the city between January 29th and February 11th, 2010.
Winterlicious is celebrating eight years in 2010 and features culinary events all over the city. Some of Toronto's top dining establishments will offer prix fixe menus with starters, entrées and desserts. Typical prixe-fixe menus cost around $15 to $25 for lunch or $25 to $45 for dinner per person, plus taxes and of course, gratuity. There are 150 restaurants participating in Winterlicious 2010.
Winterlicious is popular and each year, reservations are strongly recommended. The general public may make reservations starting on Thursday, January 14. However, American Express holders can book early with Front Of The Line on January 12 and January 13. For a list of restaurants participating in Winterlicious 2010, click here.
In addition to the dining program, there are several culinary adventures worth checking out during Winterlicious 2010. Here are a few of the innovative events to warm up your winter with great food and drink:
Winterlicious: Eats, Beats and Tweets – January 29th and 30th, 2010
Eats, Beats and Tweets @nyood promises to be an adventure designed for our times. Food and technology collide as diners’ tweets are projected on Nyood’s walls as they enjoy a delectable tasting menu of nouveau Mediterranean cuisine conceived by Roger Mooking, Executive Chef of Nyood and Kultura and host of Food Network’s Everyday Exotic. Each night will feature a DJ rocking the crowd with a contemporary soul vibe to keep the party hoppin'. This event is part of Winterlicious Culinary Events 2010. Price: $50/person plus beverages, taxes and gratuity. Two seatings - 6:30pm and 9:00pm.
Winterlicious: Family Days - A Weekend of Culinary Adventure – January 30th and 31st, 2010
Warm up in the kitchen at Nella Cucina! Escape for a few hours to another country and learn how to prepare delicious recipes from culinary destinations such as Morocco, Italy, China and more.
All classes include appetizers, a 3-course meal, refreshments plus a recipe booklet and a gift from our retail store. All participants are also entitled to a 15% discount on all regular priced merchandise in our retail store from January 29 to February 28.
Family Days…A Weekend of Culinary Adventure!
Open to parents and kids, featuring 2 classes per day preparing Indian, Italian, Thai and Mexican cuisine. This event is part of the Winterlicious Culinary Event Series 2010. This event will be held at Nell Cucina. Price: Children, 12 and under - $50 plus taxes. Adults - $60 plus taxes.
Winterlicious: Totally Toronto Culinary Experience – January 30th, 2010
Celebrate Toronto, our history, food, and renowned chefs during A totally Toronto culinary experience at The Market Kitchen. This experience will include a history tour of the St. Lawrence Market Complex, a personalized shopping excursion and an interactive cooking demonstration with celebrity Chef Brad Long recognized for his appearances on Restaurant Makeover on The Food Network.
Chef Long will feature a delicious menu as part of this food demonstration that blends his elegant style of cuisine with locally-produced, healthy, nutritious food compliments of St. Lawrence Market. Price: $75.00.
Winterlicious: Travel the Streets of Toronto – January 31st, 2010
Celebrating the diversity of cultures and cuisines in Toronto, the Rosewater will feature a brunch highlighting the very best culinary offerings from the distinct neighbourhoods of the city. Savour traditional brunch and breakfast fare featuring a variety of cuisines, including Peruvian potato and chorizo hash, Italian tagliatelle with forest mushrooms, and Brazilian steak a la plancha topped with fried egg. Part of the Winterlicious Culinary Events Series. This event will be held at the Rosewater Supper Club. Price: $50/person - seatings at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
Winterlicious: Ex-Communication by Chocolat – February 1st, 2010
Une soiree of la luxure and sinful indulgence. Experience a 6-course guided tasting dinner of sweet and savoury pleasures: 3 savoury courses and 3 Valrhona Chocolat dessert courses paired with the finest Champagnes, The Macallan & Highland Park Scotches, Canadian wines, followed by Courvoisier Cognacs as digestifs. This event is part of the 2010 Winterlicious Culinary Events Series and will be held at MoRoCo Chocolat in Yorkville. Price: $95/person plus taxes and gratuity.
Winterlicious: Making the Grade - Rising Chef Citrus Cook-Off – February 2nd, 2010
Top students representing some of Canada’s leading culinary schools will face-off in a grapefruit challenge to earn top spot in the “Rising Chef Citrus Cook-off”. Armed with their own tantalizing appetizer, entrée and dessert recipes, the contestants will create their sweet and savoury dishes for a judging panel of local food aficionados. Guests will watch the live grapefruit showdown unfold as they enjoy citrus-inspired samples created by Toronto’s own Chef Brad Moore of SCHOOL. The delicious tastes of the evening will temper the cool winter’s day with a touch of Florida sun in each heart-warming recipe. Part of the Winterlicious Culinary Events Series. This event will be held at School Restaurant. Price: $35/person including taxes and gratuity.
Winterlicious: Around the World, On the Fly! – February 3rd, 2010

Winterlicious: Julialicious – February 4th/6th, 2010
If you loved the film Julie & Julia, you must have been inspired to head right home, don your pearls and prepare Julia Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon. After taking this delicious class with instructor Bonnie Stern, you’ll be able to do just that, as well as create other dishes for which Julia was famous.
Take home gifts including a copy of Julia Child’s memoir My Life in France and a pound of Gay Lea unsalted butter. This event will be held at the Bonnie Stern Cooking Studio. Price: $99.00/person including taxes. Classes will be held Feb 4 / 6:30 – 9 pm and Feb 6 / 11:30 am – 2 pm.
Winterlicious: Guilty Pleasures VI – February 6th, 2010
Start your Saturday with a scrumptious brunch featuring fresh juice, blueberry scones, warm croissants, soft and sexy scrambled eggs and so much more. Browse through rack after rack of original Canadian designs, collect limited edition pieces and peruse one-of-a-kind accessories and never before seen jewellery. Take a break at the Beauty Bar for fashion tips and personalized make-up consultations, enter to win a fabulous door prize and don’t forget to grab your decadent swag bag on the way out.
Due to the popular nature of this event, space is limited. This event is part of the 2010 Winterlicious Culinary Events Series. This event will take place at The Drake Hotel. Price: $35 plus taxes and gratuity. Seatings at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm.
Winterlicious: The Feast of the Tiger – February 7th, 2010
Join us as we celebrate the Year of the Tiger, a creature of courage, charisma & a symbol of good fortune. Experience delicate hand-crafted and exotic flavoured dim sum, as we pay homage to the New Year through an extraordinary passage to the Far East. Gather your passport; the journey begins. Part of the Winterlicious Culinary Events Series. This event will be held at The Spice Route. Price: $40/person.
Winterlicious: A Celebration of Beer – February 9th, 2010
This unique culinary event showcases and celebrates the diversity of beer as a beverage, as an ingredient and an accompaniment to fine food.
beerbistro Chef de Cuisine and author of the critically acclaimed beerbistro cookbook, Brian Morin along with famed Brewmaster Ryan Johnson take you on a culinary journey highlighting Toronto’s unique gastronomic landscape and showcasing some of the world’s most respected specialty beers.
Seven courses paired and prepared with seven beers, including the original pilsner Pilsner Urquell and others brought in exclusively for this event, that will change the way you think about beer. Enjoy creative fresh market beercuisine such as an elk and dried blueberry hot dog with caramelized onions and crème fraiche.
